Cycle update: Trigger time!

14 Jul

Wow, when did I last blog? Thursday? Seems like so much has happened since then. Allow me to catch you all up…

First of all, DH returned home yesterday afternoon, thank goodness! I was so happy and relieved to have him back. All felt manageable again with him by my side.

Cycle-wise, I went back yesterday (Friday) for another monitoring appointment. BIG developments. At the ultrasound they saw lots of follicles on each ovary, looked like maybe even 10 per ovary. The u/s tech and med student were very excited and even muttered, “amazing.” They were also tickled by my Wonder Woman socks. The u/s tech said, you should wear those when you deliver! I thought she was going to say at my retrieval or transfer! The thought of delivering took me by surprise, but it also made me really, really happy that she expected me to make it to a delivery one day. That feels so far and distant to me. Most of the follicles were 10mm-14mm with just one at 16 mm, but there were a lot of them. So, I was close.

The nurse called in the afternoon with my plan: dropping down to 112.5 IU of Gonal-f for Friday night (guess my E2 levels were creeping up), back on Saturday morning for ANOTHER appointment! I was kind of glad for this though, because it meant DH could come with. At this point, she was estimating a Tuesday or Wednesday retrieval. Meanwhile, my ear/jaw situation was really bugging me so I went back in to the ear, nose and throat doc’s and the good news is, no ear infection. My ear drum was peeling, hence the noise. It’s no big deal and will go away naturally. The jaw pain though (like every time I eat or yawn or even talk), I’ll have to see a TMJ specialist about. But this is not an urgent problem so I’m going to put it off for a few weeks until I’ve seen this cycle through.

Okay, fast forward to this morning. Another ultrasound. Again, lots to measure, lots of follicles on each side. They’re not even counting at this point, there are so many. They then took my blood and sent me on my way, saying they’d call me later with the plan. The nurse estimated a Monday or Tuesday retrieval. Off I went to acupuncture, and I sent DH home to manage the house cleaners that were coming by. I wanted to get the house professionally cleaned before my ER & ET, knowing that would help alleviate some stress and make me more comfortable. I’ve never had my house cleaned before so it’s quite the treat! We got a pretty good deal too, using Living Social.

Just as I’m leaving acupuncture, my RE’s office called. Here’s the plan: triggering TONIGHT! WOOT! 9:30 pm, I’m to take the hcg shot. We’re to have sex tonight, then abstain until Monday. They’re starting me tonight on a drug called cabergoline (which I’ve NEVER heard of or seen mentioned before) to help reduce the chance of getting OHSS. I guess my E2 levels are kind of high, but not so high that they can’t move forward (thank goodness!). I asked why we were triggering tonight instead of tomorrow. She said because of the E2 levels but that most of my follicles are at least 15 mm and the 13 mm ones might be able to catch up by Monday anyways.

So that’s that! 7:30 am on Monday morning we’re to report to the clinic for the retrieval. I’m to wear no makeup, no nail polish, and no jewelry. The actual procedure takes place in the Labor & Delivery OR (oh, the irony!) and takes about 20 minutes. Afterwards, they’ll tell us how many eggs they got and then Tuesday afternoon, we’ll learn how many fertilized and how many embryos we have. At that time, we’ll also learn if we’ll be having a three-day (so, Thursday) transfer, or a five-day. I’m hoping and praying for a five day! Not just for the obvious reasons but it would also be much better with work to do it over the weekend. But, despite this hope, I’m trying not to let my anxiety get the best of me and stay in a place of calm thankfulness for all I have and how far we’ve come. I’m worried about so many different things but I’m trying to remind myself to let this process unfold however it will and trust in the positive intention of our actions.

Wish us luck!

Congratulations! Such exciting news! And I’m glad your hubby is back in town…I know how lonely and overwhelming it can be when the hubby is not around. You mentioned that you are going to a TMJ specialist. My mom recently was diagnosed with TMJ and was sent for physical therapy as her treatment. Her physical therapist actually recommended she also go to an acupuncturist because the relief in her jaw would happen much quicker through acupuncture than through therapy. Since you already go to an acupuncturist, you should mention your discomfort/pain in your jaw next time you go.
